Welcome

Over the three years this website has been running it has proved to be a huge success for visitors researching all variations in spelling of the name Leggett*. The response in follow up emails for help and the supply of new information has been overwhelming. Many people new to family history are now able to find instant help with their Leggett* research.

The success has therefore made it impossible for me to update the family tree pages on a regular basis. As fast as I am updating them, new information arrives, which means I do not have the time to keep up.

Over the past 30 years that I have been doing a one-name study of the Leggett* name, I have amassed over 30,000 instances worldwide in all variations of spellings. I have put many of those individuals into their own family trees and helped many people with their research. However as methods of family history research have moved forward the time has come for my own research to change direction into a new era of Leggett* research.

The Future of Leggett family history

The past few years has seen family history step into a new era via the Internet. Gone are the days of visiting record offices and searching page by page through registers for lost ancestors. Everything you need to get many generations back is now available on the Internet.

With this in mind I have decided it was time that I also took a giant leap forward in my method of research. I am no longer recording all instances of births, marriages and deaths, or entries in census returns as these are now available indexed on the Internet.

Research for the future based on 4 areas.

1. Computer data base of individuals, containing all information relating to that individual from all sources that are available.

2. Regular updates and additional trees on the website with new method of showing updates.

3. The continuation of the Leggett* photographic database. Many photo's get lost over the years, so by doing this I can make the collection of photos available for future deposit in record offices with some placed on the web for the benefit of generations to come. If you can help me with this project, simply scan the photo's and send them to me
along with the name and date of birth (If known) of the individuals in the photo's. If
you can, please also enclose their family tree. Please remember that copyright
remains with the photographer, so if you did not take the photos, please ask
permission of the person who took the photo, or if the photo's are old and have been
passed down through your family, ask for permission from the owner of them if they
are not yours. The photos will not be used for any other purpose than stated above.

4. A DNA Project. DNA is a new way of linking members of different trees to common ancestors. In our family history research, the paper trail eventually ends, still leaving the question of "who is related to whom?". DNA testing should supply the answers that will link different trees together and will determine whether one variation of spelling is linked to another. More information on the DNA Project is available on the DNA Project page

It would never be possible to publish all my Leggett* information on the web, so I welcome enquiries which can be followed up on a one to one basis.

I hope you enjoy visiting this website and I hope it is helpful with your research into the Leggett* name. Please feel free to contact me for help or to send your own tree for inclusion on this website. click here

Finally, I would like to thank all those people who over the years have provided me with information to help me with my research.

Regards
Les Leggett
